Wondering where the 2022 FIFA World Cup is going to be held? - Me too.
Football history of Qatar? - No, I don't know either. Apparently it's half the size of Wales!
Map of Qatar
Qatar want to move the World Cup to JANUARY! Have a read
of the BBC write up about it. Apparently it's just not possible to get the place cold enough in summer so that
the players don't collapse and die. What a joke.
The Qatari peninsula juts 100 miles (161 km) north into the Persian Gulf from Saudi Arabia and is slightly smaller than the state of Connecticut, USA. Much of the country consists of a low, barren plain, covered with sand. To the southeast lies the spectacular Khor al Adaid ("Inland Sea"), an area of rolling sand dunes surrounding an inlet of the Persian Gulf. There are mild winters and very hot, humid summers.
Has an area of 4,416 square miles (about 11430 square km)?
Has no less than 6 airports?
Despite its size has an approximate GDP of $100.8 billion?
Someone just told me alcohol is illegal in Qatar.
The capital, Doha, is only 233 miles west of Dubai!
You might also like to have a look at Five Destinations to Explore in Qatar on the CNN site! I'm not overly keen on the bird watching in Al-Khor but Al-Corniche (4 miles of road from Doha along the coast) might be worth a visit. Also checkout The Penisular Qatar for more local information.
Qatar's First 5 Stadiums
Is Qatar actually capable of hosting the World Cup in 2022? They need to build 10 stadiums in the next 10 years and there
isn't a lot of scope for finishing the project late! Here's a video posted to their YouTube channel that formed part of Qatar's bid showing plans for
the first 5 stadiums, it's worth a watch.
